Who we are
Today, Harris Precast continues the 50 year tradition of exceptional products and service. Owner, Scott Harris handles the day to day operations of the burial vault business. His wife, Hope Harris, manages La Porte Cremation Service and runs Pet Prairie. Scott and Hope know the importance of providing funeral homes with high quality products and outstanding service. Funeral homes are able to pass along that confidence and peace of mind to their grieving families.
In 1962, the Harris family purchased Pine Lake Vault, becoming a Doric burial vault franchise in 1987. Scott Harris bought the business from the rest of the family in 1996 and changed the name to Harris Precast. Seeing a need in our community to offer cremation services, in 1999 Scott opened La Porte Cremation Service on a 13 acre parcel of land on Severs Road. As the needs of the community have changed, so have the offerings of Harris Precast.
In 2015, the business moved to it's current location, 703 N Fail Road, La Porte, Indiana. The move to this location enables Harris Precast and La Porte Cremation Service to operate in the same building. The new building also provides Harris Precast with a retail showroom for expansion into monument , memorials, and urn sales open to the public.
Also under Harris Precast, Pet Prairie opened on the Severs Road property which previously was home to La Porte Cremation Service. Pet Prairie offers veterinary clinics, animal shelters, and the community pet cremation services and along with retail sales of pet memorials and supplies. Peaceful Prairie Pet Cemetery and Scatter garden is also located on Severs Road and future plans are in place for Prairie Run, a dog park.
The Harris Precast staff is made up of caring professionals who understand the importance of the work we do. Trained to not only manufacture a superior Doric burial vault, but also set up and execute grave side services and burials for our funeral homes with the respect and dignity the grieving families deserve.
